Hi Everyone!
I have a funny story to tell you all today!
I was outside this morning taking a picture of a card on the deck for an Inky Antics/Tombow blog hop tomorrow, when I thought a humming bird buzzed me. I turned to look and it was a huge wasp of some kind carrying a cicada that was as big at it was! I snapped this photo as he was trying to pull it down through a knothole. There is an area of the deck that always has tons of dead cicadas laying there. We have often wondered why they go there to die. Well... mystery solved. they don't die there, they are brought there by this crazy huge wasp!
Here is the funny part...
(I can laugh now but at the time, I almost tinkled my granny panties!)
(I can laugh now but at the time, I almost tinkled my granny panties!)
I picked up a hand shovel that was laying there, and thought I was going to cut it in half by whacking it with the edge of the shovel.
Well....you guessed it....I MISSED!!!
Picture me in a housecoat, bare foot, hair still up in a messy bun (yes...I'm being lazy this morning) running around the back yard swatting at this huge bug/bird with a stinger that is now totally pissed off and dive bombing me! Both arms were flailing in the air as I swung at it with the shovel and my bare hand. I hit it a couple of times with my hand before I managed to get into the house!
I waited about thirty minutes until the coast was clear then went back out to finish shooting my card. Well...you guessed it again...he was waiting for me! I no sooner sat down in a deck chair and he started dive bombing me again!
Another mad dash back into the house for me!
Any other pictures I need to take today will be done under the Ott Light! :)
Between my morning coffee and the wasp induced adrenaline rush, I'm hopped up and ready to hit my craft studio running! :)
Hugs and happy crafting my friends!

LOL!!!! Please know I'm not laughing at you....but what a funny story!! sounds like he's been doing this for sometime if you've seen many other cicadas under there. There was no way he was going to have you interfere with his process! Keep safe...hahahaha...
Hugs Kathy
I'm with Kathy. I just had to laugh too!! Thanks for starting my day with a great laugh. Enjoy your craft room time today.

Yikes!! I so dislike flying bugs with stingers. This one sounds creepy!
Sorry to laugh but you paint a very funny picture...your braver that me, I'd have run like crazy...get out the bug spray x
FYI, I got my copy of Cardmaker Magazine, and saw your cards and the feature article. Congrats!
Oh ME!!!! True, you are tons braver than I am...LOL!! Of course now I know who to ask for cicada wings..hehe
Hugs,
Regi
So happy you didn't get stung!!
Hi, True! Just found your site a few days ago and am really enjoying it. I really appreciate your blog being white letters on black 'cause I'm partially blind and can see the words much plainer against a dark bakcground. Anywhoo, loved your wasp story. It was my giggle for the day. Hugs!
Wow, sounds like you got your excercise in this morning. Lol. I would have freaked out. Glad he missed you though.
Oh my .. Im laughing so hard at the thought of your " peeing your granny panties " what a funny pitcure your painted .. I must say YUCK at the look of that nasty bug!
You are far braver than I...when anything flys, jumps, hops or comes from nowhere at me I scream and flail and duck n cover and run! Mr. C never understands why I scream let alone do all the other antics. I tell him it is my sonar to scare them away. So glad you are safe! Wondrous week to you...
crazy looking big bug! Funny story!!
True your story is too funny- and I can relate....I am not a fan of bugs with stingers...... I bet if any neighbors saw you they were wondering what the heck was going on.....!
Acccccccccccccccck!!!
We have hummingbird-sized wasps too (or so they seem ..), and they really do get testy and target wayward humans! I can totally envision your scene ... but won't LOL because I've been there! ha
OTT lights to the rescue!

Gracious, you certainly grown large wasps down your way! I have enough trouble with the ones we have around here! Glad you didn't get stung but it might be a good idea to get someone to investigate if there is a nest under your deck.
Thanks for sharing your funny story! :)
True, here's good news for you. As scary as the wasp looks, they rarely sting. Try a google search for "Cicada Killer Wasp.". I'm pretty sure that's what you have. I get them every summer at my house. It's a little unnerving to mow over them, but they really are harmless (despite their creepy name!)
